Background; 1898-1986

Henry Moore started creating abstract sculptures. He then moved into a series of many drawings when he was suffering from poor health, where he drew his hand many times to portray his many different emotions relating to his illness, such as anxiety, stress and anger. He said they show helplessness in a different light which is a very abstract message to portray.

This Lithograph uses lines to create a dramatic effect as the lines are very aggressive making the piece very atmospheric. This is the feeling he wanted to get across as he created these hand drawings when he was unwell and elderly and wanted to portray his feelings of anxiety.  I have applied this same method in most of my experiments; in my intaglio prints when applying pressure, using very fine scratchy lines, which I have explored as much as possible.

However, I am not taking this method of lines forward because my final piece is being created with simplified colour layers to making it bold and easy to read visually (inspired by Roy Lichtenstein).
